Back in September, Amazon announced new Kindle Scribe models coming sometime before the end of the year: the third-generation Scribe and the very first Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. On Thursday, the e-reader authority (among many other things) finally revealed their December 10 launch date.
The new Kindle Scribe
Available and without a front light
The new Kindle Scribe has a larger 11-inch screen, weighs 400g, and is only 5.4mm thick. The display boasts a new "texture-molded glass" that improves the friction when the pen glides across the screen, per Amazon. A display stack improvement reduces gap between the screen and stylus tip to almost nothing, and will make writing on the tablet feel more like paper than ever. But what many users will look forward to is the 40% faster page turns and writing -- I know that was number-one on my wishlist.
The new Scribe comes packed with a new quad-core chip, more memory, and new Oxide display technology that boosts the refresh rate and will generally make the whole experience feel smoother. In addition, you'll also be able to import and export files from both the regular new Scribe and the Colorsoft version with Google Drive or OneDrive integration, which sure beats the older 'send to email' workaround.

The very first Kindle Scribe Colorsoft
First of its name
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will have everything the new Kindle Scribe has, but with an expanded visual palette. Amazon used its custom Colorsoft display tech that promises to render colors that don't hurt your eyes like a traditional LCD screen. For anyone who thought they had to give up color-coded notes to indulge in a digital notebook, the nightmare has finally come to an end.
The cherry on top is its battery life, which is supposed to last weeks on end. As someone who uses a Scribe throughout the work day, I'm skeptical. After I spend more hands-on time with the device, I'll be able to provide a better estimate of the battery's real-world practicality. I'm hopeful that those colors don't come at a cost.
Both new Kindle Scribes will come loaded with new AI features such as Quick Notes to let you jot down ideas fast, AI-powered search with summaries and follow-up questions, Send to Alexa+ to have a conversation about your notes, and more.
