The Kindle Scribe was first introduced in 2022 as a combination of Amazon's Kindle e-reader and a digital notebook, designed for students, professionals, or anyone who enjoys taking notes or prefers a larger screen for reading. In 2024, Amazon updated the Kindle Scribe with an improved pen and new features, and now, at its 2025 fall hardware event, Amazon has revealed the future of the Kindle Scribe.

All three new Kindle Scribe models are equipped with an 11-inch glare-free display. The highlight of the new lineup is the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which is the first-ever color Kindle Scribe.

"Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features the same new design and provides a fluid color writing experience," Amazon said in a press release. "To create colors that are soft and don’t hurt your eyes like an LCD display, we used our custom-built Colorsoft display technology, which has a color filter and light guide with nitride LEDs to enhance color without washing out the details."

All three of Amazon's new Kindle Scribe models will be available in the US later this year, with the new Kindle Scribe (without a front light) starting at $430, the Kindle Scribe (with a front light) starting at $500, and the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft starting at $630. The new Kindle Scribes will also be available in Germany and the UK in early 2026.

Amazon has redefined the Kindle Scribe

It has a larger 11-inch screen, a faster quad-core chipset, and more memory

With its new design, Amazon has completely transformed the look and feel of the Kindle Scribe. The second-generation Kindle Scribe, released last year, features a 10.2-inch glare-free display, wider bezels, and a thicker build, weighing 433 grams. The redesigned Kindle Scribe is thinner, featuring a larger 11-inch screen, and is 33 grams lighter than its predecessor.

The Kindle Scribe also features a new front light system (available on the two models that support it), which utilizes miniaturized LEDs, allowing Amazon to reduce the bezels significantly. The display on all three models also features a new "texture-molded glass," which Amazon states will help improve friction across the screen when using the Kindle Scribe's included pen stylus.

The updates aren't all outward-facing either. Of course, the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features a new E Ink color display, introducing color to the Scribe for the first time. However, all three models of the Kindle Scribe now include a new quad-core chipset and increased memory, which should enhance their overall performance.

The Kindle Scribe also comes equipped with AI-powered features and handy software tools, such as the ability to connect to Google Drive and OneDrive to access documents for editing, and AI-powered search, which allows you to search across all your notebooks to find something or summarize your notes for you. The Kindle Scribe will also be integrated with Alexa+ "early next year," allowing users to send their notes to Alexa+ to have a discussion about them.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will be available in 32GB and 64GB storage variants, and in two colors: graphite and fig. The new Kindle Scribe will be available in 32GB and 64GB storage capacities as well, but only in graphite. The Kindle Scribe without Front Light will be available in just a 16GB storage capacity, and only in graphite. The new Kindle Scribe models aren't available for pre-order yet, but you can sign up on their product pages on Amazon to be notified for when they do. The redesigned Kindle Scribe and the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will be available later this year, and the new Kindle Scribe without Front Light will be available in early 2026.
