Those window flat TV antennas don't work, unless your within 15 miles of the stations, built your own antenna or a real antenna and put it outside, most antenna distance is BS and should be ignored if it states over 80+ miles away, unless you put the antenna 100s of feet into the air.

Most of the TV range on the antennas are BS, look up Radio Horizon Calculator, they that will give you the real distance that a RF signal will be usable, basically your antenna and the TV station antenna must be 5,000 feet to travel 200 miles, I just love how these antenna manufactures get away with printing the distance that the antenna will work.

Unfortunately once the broadcasters start 3.0, they will stop using the 1.0 in 5 years, hopefully someone will come up with a recording device, they want you to pay someone, to watch TV, I remember when they first come out with cable tv, they said there would be less commercials, they lied.

Thank the FCC and ISP service providers for the reduction of channels on OTA TV, there used to be 81 channels, and it was reduced to 67 then 58 and now 35 channels, in which channels 2 to 6 are used sparingly, because the reception it terrible on the low end of VHF LOW (analog true channel frequencies, 54 to 86 MHz. Then add to that fact that any station who wishes to use ATSC 3.0 standard must broadcast using ATSC 1.0 as well for 5 years, further clogging the spectrum of limited space. In most areas only 1 channels may be used in 2-6 and 7 to 36 leaving really only 30 TV channels and if your have 3 stations using both standards then your down to 27 stations which has to share adjacent cities with each of their own channels. I used to be able to get TV Stations from other markets, but since digital TV took through the airwaves, not any more.

Worst story ever... Sounds like he doesn't even watch TV, no sports, news, comedy, not sure what he's watching, but having a TV antenna with an Android TV Box will give you the best viewing options. Don't be fooled by TV manufactures on what you can get in, most Name Brand TV Channel apps, most of not all can be installed on your an Android TV Box, like ONN Stream, Google TV Box. Stay away from Amazon Fire, Apple TV, or Roku devices you can't sideload apps outside of their play store. TV antenna ranges are BS for the most part, your not going to get a station in further then 70 miles away without putting the antenna up 100s of feet into the air. The curvature of the earth will limit the range, look up radio horizon calculator.
Most Networks have a streaming platform like Fox Local to stream local news programs. Many apps have these built in like Pluto TV, Sling etc. However for syndicated and network programs only paid programs like Hulu and over the air antenna TV are your only options. Look up Troy Point for more info on TV boxes and how to customize them.
