This news comes as no surprise, given that LG decided back in 2021 to stop making smartphones and exit the market altogether. Shortly afterward, it began transitioning its smartphone manufacturing to home appliances instead. The last smartphone released by LG was the LG Wing 5G, launched in October 2020, which featured a unique swivel display that could be rotated to form a T-shape, revealing another display underneath.
Other notable releases in 2020 from LG include the LG V60 ThinQ 5G, which has a detachable screen and supports 8K video recording, and the LG Stylo 6, which has a more traditional smartphone design and includes a stylus. Unfortunately, LG's phone business never reached the heights achieved by Samsung and Apple.
To LG's credit, I always found its designs to be innovative and outside the box. I have fond memories of using the LG G4 back in the day, which came out in 2015. It launched with Android 5.1 and featured a beautiful 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution IPS display. It also had a sleek leather back cover, which definitely made it stand out against all the iPhone and Samsung smartphones available at that time.
