About Eli Becht
Eli is a freelance journalist who lives in Detroit, MI. He got his start in journalism covering video games and sports for Heavy before branching out into greater esports coverage at Dexerto. He also has bylines at SlashGear, Sports Illustrated, and more.
He added technology coverage to his plate over his years of writing, and it's something he continues to cover at Pocket-lint. He's interviewed numerous game developers and covered several live events, such as the launch of Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in Los Angeles.
He has written more than 5,000 articles and looks to continue adding to that number in the years to come. He has a degree in Journalism from Central Michigan University.
What was your first phone?
The first phone I bought with my own money was a Windows Phone 8, a phone I still believe was ahead of its time. Being able to control my Xbox with my phone was a cool feature, even if it wasn't anything with any real practical use.
I still have this phone tucked away in a box somewhere, but I haven't had an real desire to find it again. I'm confident it'd still turn on if I charge it back up.
When did your interest in technology begin?
While my brother started gaming at a younger age than me and had a PS1 and N64, it wasn't until the original Xbox that I got into gaming. My dad came home with the console shortly after the launch with Azurik: Rise of Perathia, something I wasn't happy about, since I was excited about a little game called Halo.
From there, I began following video games and eventually made building PCs a hobby of mine. Although advancing technology is a fascination of mine, I never picked up an Apple product until the Apple TV 4K. When the time comes to pick up a new tablet, an iPad could be in play.
What tech products or categories are you most passionate about?
For a long time, I used my Xbox and smart TV as my main way to watch Netflix until I stumbled on the Apple TV 4K. This device is so fast and reactive that it's hard to imagine going back to anything else.
I recommend it to anybody who asks, and while I don't have any other Apple products just yet, it's easy to see this being my gateway into the greater ecosystem.
