I'm forever on the quest to find the best streaming services. This is not only because it's a part of my job, but also because I genuinely want to try out as much as I can to see what's worth my time and money. I bought a Samsung Frame TV a few years ago and have loved it. It looks great in our family room, and we frequently use the artwork feature to make our room look nicer.
It has a number of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels, similar to how Pluto TV and Tubi are built. These channels are unlike the cable channels that you're used to, as they are usually focused on a specific topic or just show one particular show. In recent months, Samsung TV Plus has made some changes that have it up there as one of the best free streaming services I've tried out. Here's why you should consider getting a Samsung device so you can watch Samsung TV Plus.
Samsung TV Plus
Samsung TV Plus is a free streaming service provided by Samsung. It features hundreds of FAST channels and on-demand movies.
It's got a ton of channels that you can watch live
These are channels you'll actually want to watch
As with any streaming service that has FAST channels, you're going to see some unique ones but also ones that you probably have seen before. Alien Nation seems to be on every free streaming service. There's about 10 channels that focus on true crime docudramas that are shot with actor portrayals. Yet, they are endlessly perfect to be on in the background, as you're just as likely to throw them on and go about your day cleaning or working as you are to see them playing in the doctor's office waiting room. But Samsung TV Plus doesn't just have channels that you can see elsewhere.
Some of the best news channels are available on things like The Roku Channel as well, like LiveNOW from Fox, ABC News Live or NBC News Now. If it's basic cable news channels, you can get them in a lot of places. Samsung TV Plus also offers things like Salem News Channel, Yahoo Finance, and CBC News to keep you in the loop as to what's going on around the world. You'll also find thousands of other channels, ready for you to pick at any time. Some interesting ones include:
- Divorce Court
- The Jack Hanna Channel
- Sailor Moon
- Fubo Sports Network
- Ice Road Truckers
- Fireplace Vibes
- Wild 'n Out
In recent months, Samsung TV Plus has added The Ringer from Spotify channel, which shows The Ringer's video podcast episodes on its own channel. Crunchyroll, the popular anime streaming service, now has its own channel on the service. Samsung TV Plus is even going to stream select NHL and NBA games through a partnership with FanDuel Sports Network. It keeps adding to its lineup to make it more enticing for viewers to tune in.
They have genre picks as well
Search by what you're into
Samsung TV Plus is the perfect place to find shows for kids and more. I found tons of content to show my daughter, all listed in the Kids menu on the left side of the screen. This crushes the kids' content that's on Netflix and other paid services. While it may not stand up against something like Disney+, there's so much to enjoy. Blippi, Shaun the Sheep, PBS Kids, and Mattel Jr. are just some of the channels we were able to watch together. It was easy to find short episodes that are just on a loop and available at the drop of a hat. If something wasn't of interest, just pressing the channel up or down would help me find another one.
Want it to feel like you're sipping an umbrella drink even when you're stuck somewhere in the middle of America? Island Vibes and Ocean Vibes are where it's at.
When it's just me watching TV, I'm usually looking for something with sports. Not only does Samsung TV Plus have NFL Channel and MLB Channel, which don't even come in my cable package, but they have nearly 75 sports channels to choose from. I learned a ton from the RugbyPass TV channel just by flipping it on for a little while. Channels dedicated to golf, women's sports, motorcar racing, MMA, soccer, and more are all at your fingertips.
Give me all the music channels, please
This is perfect for setting the mood
I loved throwing on the Music Choice channels on my cable package as background music any time we had people over. But now I just go to Samsung TV Plus and look for all the Vevo channels they have. Vevo is a streaming music service that shows music videos, so this adds more visual stimulation than the Music Choice channels ever did. All kinds of music are accounted for in the channel lineup, ranging from R&B to Latino to Christian Hits and 80s Flashback. If there's a specific kind of music you're in the mood for, you'll likely be able to find it in these picks.
If you aren't sure what kind of genre you want but are sure of what mood you're in, the ambiance channels are perfect. You can opt for Rainy Day Vibes when you're feeling a bit down. Stingray Holidayscapes is honestly great any time of year. There's Campfire Vibes, Cozy Vibes, Luxe Fireplace Vibes, and just plain Fireplace Vibes. Want it to feel like you're sipping an umbrella drink even when you're stuck somewhere in the middle of America? Island Vibes and Ocean Vibes are where it's at.
Movies and TV series on demand to watch whenever
The rotation of the films is well done
You aren't going to find new shows available on demand. But you'll find classics as well as ones that are from over the past 20 years.
What I like most about Samsung TV Plus is the number of movies at the drop of a hat. It stands up against its competition in terms of the movies you can watch. The service does a good job of highlighting timely movies as well, helping to give the audience what they probably want. I enjoyed the Halloween lineup, and I am looking forward to the holiday lineup that will definitely be released. There's really no downside to being able to watch some classic films.
The same goes for TV series. I absolutely haven't been able to watch everything that was hot at the time it was released. For example, I never got around to watching the last few seasons of The Walking Dead. I can watch them on demand through Samsung TV Plus. The menus are easy to navigate, and the guides are clearly labeled. I prefer this guide to that of Pluto TV and Tubi, which can just take up the whole screen with small boxes and titles. This is more visual and easier to decipher. I haven't found many bad things to say about Samsung TV Plus and I look forward to continuing using it, especially with sporting events coming to it live soon.
